About The Ferryman Inn

The Ferryman Inn is situated halfway between Oxford and Witney on an ancient Thames crossing point made famous by Matthew Arnold’s poem of meeting the Scholar Gypsy whilst crossing back to Oxford.

Discover The Thames Path

Staying at the Ferryman Inn, guests can explore scenic walking routes along the river, wander through the vast network of gravel pits and lakes, and discover the Quoits stones at Stanton Harcourt.

The Ferryman Inn sits directly on the Thames Path, making it an ideal stopover for walkers traveling up or downstream. Many choose to extend their stay and take advantage of the bus service to Witney or Oxford. We are also on the edge of the Cotswolds, between Pinkhill and Northmoor locks, at an ancient crossing point that began as a ford and later became a ferry (currently not in operation).

For those walking the Thames Path, we offer a comfortable resting place with six ensuite bedrooms.

Travel

Car Parking

The Ferryman Inn's car park is a private car park with no access rights to the river Thames or the Thames path. Car parking is free for all our customers and residents.

Casual parking by members of the public for whatever reason is charged at £10 per car per day or part thereof. No overnight parking without prior agreement.

CAMPERVANS ARE NOT ALLOWED ACCESS OR PARKING IN OUR CAR PARK.

Coaches

The Ferryman Inn welcomes coaches. Our large car park is capable of allowing up to six coaches to arrive, drop off turn and park with ample space to move around for your passengers. We can have meals ready at a set time for arrival, unload and toilet break! We can organise entertainment in the form of a singer or comedian but many coach parties are happy to sit and look at the river until its time to depart.

Buses

The Ferryman Inn has a good bus service from our own car park to Witney or Oxford.

The Ferryman Inn is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team for the upcoming year. We offer a friendly work environment, competitive pay (above minimum wage), flexible hours to suit your needs, and training for the right candidates.

We are currently looking for:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Kitchen porters and kitchen staff
  • Chefs and/or cooks
  • Gardener/handyman (tasks include lawn care, plant watering, etc.)
